SO gary gets in tomrrow, I have to rent a car and drive down to LA to pick him up. It shouldnt be too bad except I havnt driven in about 6 years. Im a bit nervous thankfuly its at least an automatic car. Then wed morning we have to get up early and drive to bakersfeild to get my fingers scaned for my visa application. Even though there like 15 places in california that you can get the finger prints done, they only offer 1 appointment a day at each facility and since we are on a time schedule the only place in california i could get an appointment for the 20th was bakersfeild so there we go. Garys first full day in california and were off to lovely downtown bakersfeild.

Since I got to california mom has planed practically every min of every day, the only time i've had to myself is when shes at work or asleep. When she gets home from work, immediately we go for a 45 min walk, while this was fun the first few days now im pretty tired of walking the streets and looking at the same houses every day, but I know its good for me, and she likes it so I don't complain (to her anyway) we are now doing just about 3.5 miles a day. Then after walking we come home and have dinner, maybe work on wedding stuff and watch tv. She goes to bed @ 7pm and I catch up on email and net stuff or read a book, I could go to the bar, its only a block away but im being good and trying to save money. Weekends there is the all the weekly shopping and errands to do, and she has planed things for both morning and afternoon every single weekend since I arrived in june. But I suppose she wants to make the most of my being here. Things are starting to come a long nicely for the wedding, last weekend we made my veil/head dress thingy, and this weekend we are going to put the dress on and figure out what im going to do with my hair and for jewelry. We have finally mailed out all the invites to the wedding, and now just have to wait to see whos comming and whos not, the reception is just going to be a potluck party thing at the local bar so not too fussy. Gary will get here on august 19th which is only 11 days WHeeeee unfortunately my father is leaving for 3 weeks ( he gets back the night before the wedding) to participate in a big sailboat race somewhere in canada so he will not actually get to meet gary until the day before the wedding. But after the wedding we will have about a week here (were going to disneyland for our honeymoon) and then my mother and father are both flying back to Scotland for our reception there, and to spend a week with us and Garys family. So the next few weeks are going to be very busy and exciting. I hope you all are well and im online for a while every day if anyone needs anything.

bored
Jul. 10th, 2008 | 07:15 am
ok im bored now, I really wanted to find a job when I came home, not only to make some cash but to keep my occupied and so I wouldnt be just sitting around doing nothing all day. But Ive applied everywhere in los osos and with out a car I cant really work in slo or morro bay. I did get offered a job at the los osos roundtable but it was as a delivery driver, so again no car no job. Now theres only about 5 weeks till gary gets here so its almost not worth even looking for a job, since it usualy takes a week or so before you actualy start working, then I have to give notice in like 3 weeks. That wont go over very well. Although I could definatly use some cash. I realized today ive got to get my passport renewed before I can apply for the visa I need, so ill have to find somewhere to get passport photos taken tomrrow so I can get that sent off. If I do it this week it should be back with me before gary gets here. If I wanted to pay twice as much I could have it in a week but i think $75 is enough. I just REALLY hope I get this passport and visa thing sorted out I DO NOT want to be left here while everyone else goes off to scotland to celabrate me getting married.

4th of july weekend

wow well its finaly over.. now we all need a vacation from the holiday :D We had a pretty busy weekend, starting thursday mom and i walked down to the merrimaker (local bar) and had a few drinks, there was terrible karoke on but everyone there was really nice. Friday We got up and started cleaning house, even though we were only having uncle jer and one of moms friends over she wanted the place all tidy, the inside wasnt so bad just needed a quick hoover, but the backyard took ages, mom takes good care of her plants but she almost never sits out there so the table was covered in plants and various plant tending stuff, all the chairs and the table needed to be hosed down and dried and the patio needed to be swept. Finaly uncle jer and Sharon arrived about 5 and we started up the bbq, we had homemade humas (sp) with crackers for munchies and then for the bbq there was hamburgers stuffed with fetta cheese, fresh shrimp with home made cocktail sauce, potato salid, green been salid and fresh cherries, then for desert mom and I had made a Key lime pie which was fantastic. After supper we walked about half a block from moms house with our little lawn chairs, and watched the fire works from across the bay. The first 4 or 5 we couldnt see because of the fog but after that the fog kinda lifted just enough for us to see them so that was pretty cool. After a quick trip to the "Maker" we headed home to bed. Saturday morning mom and I had to get up early in order to run some errands and do a bit of grocery shoping because we had plans all afternoon. Just about noon we headed down to biddle park to hear my father play. He plays bass gittare in a blues/jazz band called dr danger and them and a few other bands were playing at a charity show for the north county humane society center ( a no kill animal shelter) there wasnt very many people there but they made enough money to pay for the event and about 150 to go to the shelter as well. One of the bands was called nickey shanes heavymetal harmonica band, and they were pretty cool, the harmonica guy did a version of jimmy hendrix's thingy that really sounded like a gittare. after about 5 hours of jazz (way more then i really can stand) we headed up to atascadero for a bbq at a friend of my moms. Her house was amazing, it was just off the main road of atascadero but it really felt like you were way out in the middle of the woods. SHe had about an acer and the whole thing was sourounded by really tall thick trees, which totaly killed all the city noise and gave it that rustic feel, i suppose if you "have" to live up in atascadero it should be some place like that. We stayed pretty late at the bbq, I didnt know many people there but everyone was nice and the food was great, and the lady throwing it had even hired a couple of guys to play background music ( most people just put on a cd lol). This morning we got up early again and took a 6 mile hike out to point buchion. It was a really nice walk except theres this MASSIVE hill you have to walk down and then up a MASSIVE hill to get to the check in point, and then of course you have to walk down and back up when you go to leave. But the walk itsself is really good and mostly level and right along the cliffs so you get some awsome views, although it was pretty foggy today so we couldnt see very far out to sea. But at least I get to feel like I did something healthy to top off the weekend of excess. Of course after the walk what did we do but stop and have really massive gooey hamburgerss lol. But we were hungry and so thats how it goes. Finaly this evening my father stoped by for a little while and we finished off the last of the keylime pie. He hes going to be away for about a week up in oregon in a sailing compitition, so he asked if id like to go out and feed his animals, which would be cool, except I dont have a car yet and he lives out in the hills on this massive avacado ranch, so I dont think the buss will be going right by his house. Oh well hopefuly ill be getting a car soon. Anyway thats about it for the weekend.

weekend update
Jun. 22nd, 2008 | 08:31 pm
SO Thursday and Friday were like the hottest days on record ever in los osos history, it was 113 which is about 40 degrees hotter then I like it. Because of the heat I didn't do anything exciting Thursday or Friday, mostly unpacked my stuff settled into the timezone and tried not to melt. Saturday mom and i ran a bunch of errands and spent the afternoon at the merrimaker where it was nice and cool inside, and for a buck you get a coke with as many free refills as you want. The big thing at the maker is everyone ( who admittedly is about 30 years older then me but still really nice) sits around playing cribbage. The last time I played I was probably about 10, so I got a refresher course and we played a few games. Not too bad a way to pass the afternoon. Then Saturday night my father came over and took me and mom out to dinner at 10Th street grill which is this little tiny restaurant here in los osos, its really nice and not EXPENSIVE but on the higher side of reasonable. I had fettichini alfredo which was really yummy but it was like $12 for pasta with no meat at all. Mom had Steak and chicken and i think hers was around $17, and Jerome( my dad) had steak and scallops which i think was like $18. SO it didn't break the bank but wasn't cheap either. It was a nice meal though no nasty letters or anything ( of course we didn't talk politics at all just to be on the safe side). Today mom and I got up and ran a few more errands, washed the car, did a bit of shopping, and then went to meet her friend Pete for lunch at Sylvester's burgers, ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY with out a doubt the best, tastiest, messiest, burgers ever. They come in 1/3pound, 1/2 pound, and 1pound versions and are SMOTHERED in secret sauce. We had the 1/3 pound burgers at 1pm and its almost 9 and I'm still feeling full. After lunch her and I popped down to the bar again to be social and play a few more games of cribbage. Then we came home and watched P.S. I Love you, I must be getting soppy in my old age I cried all though that dammed movie. Its really good and sweet its just so hard to stop crying :D and that pretty much brings us up to right now. Hopefully Monday will be nice and cool and Ill be able to start getting things done so I can find a job and make some money.

the trip home part 2
Jun. 19th, 2008 | 02:13 pm
yesterday I caught the train from Union station down to san luis obispo, the train ride wasnt too bad there was lots of friendly people who all wanted to know about scotland and what it was like to live there. I was sat next to an extreamly perky girl who was um very into jesus and what he can do for people. but she didnt push anything, just every other word was oh jesus will guide us or thank jesus for your blessings ect. the seats on the train are fantastic i had an upperdeck seat so you could see everything, and they are really comfy about 3 feet between you and the seat in front of you, if only flights were that way. although having said that if you have a fortune to spend they had these cool seats on my flight over that were like little beds i think they start at around 1800 each way or something so ill never be able to afford them lol. anyway the train ride was pretty non eventful, except id love to know how come it takes 3 hours and 25 min to get from santa barbara to slo on the train, it dosnt take that long by car. when i got to the train station there was some confusion with my luggage but thankfuly i got it in the end and it didnt go on to sf. Mom and Jerome ( my father) were both there to greet me which was cool but slightly weird too. he seems really nice but we didnt like talk alone or anything. We all went to dinner at this little mexican resturant in los osos which was really good. and we got a nasty note from the family at the table next to us. I suppose we should have tried to talk in whispers so as to not offend anyone, but well as most people know IM NOT a fan of bush, and neither is my mom or father apparently, and I was talking about how when i first moved over to the uk and met someone new they would go ohh your an american how lovely, and now they tend to go oh your an american, and make a funny face, and we were talkikng about how excited we are that hes leaving office soon ect, well when the family next to us left, the father and kids left first and then the mother came over and handed me a folded pice of paper with a smily face on the outside and said this is for you. I thought the kid had done a drawing or something like that but no, there was a note from the parents, "if you dont like america you should leave! bush is a great and honnorable man and a great president who is doing the best thing for our country and other countrys abroad to help spread democracy and protect our way of life." I dont mind if they disagree but i thought it was a bit cowardly to write it on a note and leave before ive had a chance to read it. But oh well apparently your not allowed to have a disenting opinion in bushes regim :D. After that nothing very exciting happend mom and i came home and after chatting to gary for a while ( he was on his way to work) i went to sleep.

traveling
Jun. 18th, 2008 | 05:45 am
well yesterday was a very very very long day, I got up at about 330am(scotand time) after only having slept about an hour. We had to leave for the airport by 5am, luckily i was pretty much packed so i mostly just had to have a shower and get something to eat. When I got to the airport gary and his mom didnt stay because its so expensive to pay to park so they droped me off and then just like that i was on my own. Thankfuly id already checked in online so i had a boarding pass and everything all i had to do was drop my bags off at the quick drop and go though to departures, then i had to wait for 2 hours till my flight started boarding. I had gotten a pretty good seat, right behind the bulkhead which means extra legroom, but the person next to me wasnt very nice they kept "accidntly" jabbing me with their elbow. from aberdeen to heathrow was just an hour and half flight which i slept though most of. Although they did serve this terrible breakfast omleete thingy i tried to eat some but gaa so much fat on the baccon it was just impossible. thankfuly once i got to heathrow i was flying into and out of terminal 5 but stillit was about 20 min to get from where i was to where i needed to be, and i had to take this new tram shuddle thing. Of course i got lost and went to competely the wrong place at first but luckily i had time to get to the right place. again i had good seats on the LONG flight, right behind the bulk head so lots of extra leg room and a table that pulls down to put stuff on. the only bad thing was there was a family mom dad and maybe 18 month old that was sat next to me, and boy did that kid cry almost the entire trip, even before take off he was crying for milk and binky and toys and what not either he was crying or saying i want i want i want. It wasnt so bad though the extra leg room ment it was comfy enough to stretch out and sleep so i did some of that, and watched a few movies too, Jumper, Charlie Willsons war, The game Plan, The other Boylin girl, and i tried to watch some of 10,000 bc but i think i was too sleepy and i gave up on that. On long haul flights they have pretty good onboard entertainment about 20 new release films and about 30 older ones. Plus tv shows, new shows, and radio stations. I was very glad when the plane finaly landed at lax and i got though customs very easily, I was afraid id be searched because i had put down on my customs declariation that i had food, (just a package of biscuts(cookies) and some tea bags but still. Then i had to go and wait for a shuddle to take me to union station, they are supposed to come every 30 min but it took about 45 for one to come along, at least it was reasonably priced, just $4 I cant immagine what a taxi would have cost to get to union station as it was about a 20 min trip with traffic ( since it was 4:45 cali time at this point traffic was pretty bad). when i got to union station i had all my luggage (probably too much) and of course i got lost again and again trying to find the taxi rank. finaly i made it there, and got a taxi ( i felt soo lazy lol) because my hotel is only about 900 feet from union station, but i had no idea in wich direction, and it was boiling hot ( well ok probably only 80ish but im used to scotland weather now) and i was knackered from my flight and my excessive luggage toting around union station so i just took a taxi. The driver looked at me like i was crazy but was happy to take my money, It cost just short of $5 for 900 feet or so. the hotel is nice enough suprizingly quiet for being right in the middle of down town, theres a taco place and a subway in the same building and a little gas station across the street. I didnt go out much lastnight, the hotel has free wifi but i couldnt get it to work so i gave my mom a quick call to let her know i was here and allright ( we had been planing to chat online) and i got a subway sandwhich and that was pretty much it. The bathroom in the room is gorgous its masive about as big as my bedroom back home, and the tub was wondrful its a really deep wide tub im 6ft tall and i was able to lay in it with me feet straight out and have everything from my neck on be under water and it had those bubbe jet things to make it like a worlpool. SO i laid in there for about an hour and went to bed at the amazingly early time of 8pm california time ( which is 4am scotland time and just about the time i NORMALY go to bed). I slept until midnight when gary texted me to see if i was alright since i wasnt able to get online to chat to him before work, he phoned and we talked about about a min which cost me almost £4.50 (or about $9us) then i went back to sleep and slept again untill just before 6am cali time so im very well rested. Today im going to catch the AMTRAK from Union station down to SLO and then my mom AND father are going to pick me up. This should be interesting since its the first time ive ever met my father. Thats about it for now, I should go and get ready and pack up a few things so I can get out ofhere in plenty of time.

Im leaving on a jet plane
Jun. 15th, 2008 | 10:31 pm
It always seems like when your going on a trip, you spend a lot of time waiting for it to come, and then you spend the last few days rushing around like a chicken with its head cut off. There's always so much stuff that needs to be done at just the last min. I've been semi packed for almost 2 weeks and yet I'm going to spend all day tomorrow repacking and double checking to make sure I haven't forgotten anything. I spent most of today showing Gary around (his own house) saying things like here is where the washing power is, to do laundry turn the knob to 5 and turn it on... Here is where the coffee is kept.. Here is where the new sponges are... and on and on lol I'm going to try and give the house a good once over tomorrow move furniture and vacuum and all that. Ive also got to go uptown and return some library books ( don't want to get charged for 3 months while I'm away) but I'm definitely not leaving the house until Ive checked in for my flight ( you can check in 24 hours a head of time on-line) because that's when i get to pick my seats. I'm still annoyed just cause Gary is disabled hes already been able to log on and pick his seats even though hes not leaving for 2 months. I just hope I don't end up crammed in the middle at the back. Hopefully everyone else flying from heathrow to Los Angeles on Tuesday will sleep late Monday morning and forget to pick their seats.

34 days to go
May. 14th, 2008 | 09:29 pm
mood:
anxious
Summer is coming, the weathers been warm for a change. Its been high 70s and low 80s here for the last week or so, which is fantastic, and in 34 days im headed home to california. Its weird because im excited to go home and get to see family and friends, but im sad to leave scotland too. My friend sadie just had a baby a few weeks ago so he will have grown tons by the time i get back. In almost 7 years gary and I have only been apart for about 2 weeks so this 3 months is going to seem like forever. Plus im worried about what kind of state im going to find the house and animals in when i do come back. There is a lot of things to do still for the wedding and i know he wont be able to deal with any of that lol. Thankfully with the internet we will be able to talk every day. When i get back to california I will need to find some kind of job, I cant just sit at home and watch tv all day, plus a bit of extra money wouldn't go a miss. 34 days sounds a long time but its really short, its almost time to start packing...

the trip to blackpool
Aug. 27th, 2007 | 02:02 pm
SO we got home from blackpool late late late friday night. all in all it was a fantastic trip. I thought i would post the photos here, and say a little about each one so i dont have to individualy send them to every single person and explain them evry time.
this is the first picture i took on the trip, its of the Houses of Parliment in Edinburgh. We didnt get to spend long there, just about 15 min while gary grabed a quick smoke before we had to rush back down and catch our next train of the day.

again this one was taken in edinburgh, its supposed to be of the castle but that sightseeing buss wasnt moving so i just snaped it quick.

once we got to blackpool we went right over to our b&b. It was a pretty nice place, very small they had 8 rooms spread over 3 flores. We were the only people there all week, so they just gave us a key to the front door and said we could come and go as we pleased. Orignaly we had booked only a double bed room but as we were the only people there they said we could have the big family room (hahaha)
so heres the b&b from the street

and heres our supposedly big family room, there was a double bed, and bunk beds and a very very tiny tiny bathroom with the smallest sink ive ever seen in my life.

we had an interesting view out the back, it was of the back of another b&b i think so i figured id take a picture of that as interestingly when you looked close what it said was kinda funny.

after we'd freshend up a bit and droped off our stuff we decided to check out the prominade which is about 2 miles long and i think we must have walked up and down about 500 times during our 3 days lol.
This is the view up the beach from the central pier

as you walk up and down the prominade you see hundreds of burger stalls, rock stalls and prize booths, the whole strip is like one big funfair. and theres casinos EVERYWHERE they even had little itty bitty slot machines gearded twards todlers with like barbie and bob the builder and tele tubies on them.

apparently every year, when most tourist places start closing for the winter blackpool dosnt, instead it switches to hyper winter mode and they do this whole illumination thing, where basicaly every street and building is lite up with lights, we went the week before they switched on, but all the decorations were up so i took one a pic of them

heres a couple of shots of the "world famous" blackpool tower

we decided to go up the tower ( it cost like £20 but we figured were on holiday go for it)

and then a few from the top which is about 450 feet up theres a glass bit they call the walk of faith that you can walk on and see right down to the street its pretty scary.

inside the tower building they had a cute little aquarium and a pretty cheesey jurasic park walk but we figured wed paid so might as well check them out too.

oddly i think the cheesey jurasic pics are some of the best ones we took

one night while wandering around the back streets of blackpool in search of a local pub and not one of the tacky pubs/clubs on the strip we spotted this house and i just had to take a picture and i told gary when we buy a house im so doing something just like this

we also found an amazing metal/punk club one night which was fantastic soo much better then the dance trance shit they were playing on the strip they had this painting up on the wall over the bar so i took a pic

while we were there gary decided to get a tatoo

and i decided it was time i got one too (anyone who says they dont hurt is ABSOUTELY lying though their teeth it hurt like hell)

I dont know how anyone could enjoy sitting on the beach when its crouded like this

but i did love the blackpool taxies

anyway thats about it for our trip we had a great time and the weather was fantastic bright sun the whole time. the train trip home was a bit of a nightmare, we were supposed to leave blackpool at like 1030 in the morning and get back into elgin at about 730 at night, but our first train of the day got stuck about 5 min outside blackpool, the train infront of us broke down and we had to sit on the tracks waiting for it to get towed for about 3 hours, which messed up the rest of our schedule, we ended up getting on a more direct rout home only having to change once instead of 3 times, but it was a much much longer train, and because of the dely it was over booked so we didnt get seats untill about 3 hours, we just went though to the luggage area an slept on our baggage. anyway hope you all enjoyed my little pictoral rundown of the trip.

resolutions

cheerful
This year instead of making a bunch of resolutions at new years that ill never keep and forget about 3 entirely 3 days later I decided to try something differnt. Each month I make a new resolution for that month and carry on the ones from the previous months. So far ive been doing very well. My resolutions so far are;
January: do the dishes every night before bed so i always wake up to a clean kitchen
Febuary: get the bedroom cleaned up, do all the back load of laundry washed dryed and put away, and never let there be more then one load that needs doing
March: clean the entire bathroom floor to celling ( scrub walls and roof as gary used to and still does smoke in there even though ive yelled screamed stopmed my foot and beged him not to) and lay the new tiles.
April: sweep and mom the kitchen, living room and hallway twice a week
which brings us to May, and for may my resolution is to try to post an update in livejournal every single day. It shouldnt be difficult since i spend hours on the pc every day trying to figure out what to do next :D for some time now ive been promising friends and family to post updates more regularly so they can see what its like to live in scotland ( for some reason they dont belive me that its much like living anywhere else) you wake up do a bunch of things you dont really want to but kinda have to, maybe go to the pub for a quick one and then go to sleep. But anyway this is my first update and i think ive explained it rather nicely so on to what i actualy did today.
Today I slept untill about 8:30 which is when kanga decided i should get up by jumping from the top of the closet onto my head. I usualy spend about an 2 hours or so checking emails replying to friends offline ims checking in on my neopets reading news and that kind of stuff while i wake up. Now that garys working i have the whole day to myself (and the animals) so it makes it a lot easier to do my cleaning. I try to do my cleaning between 11 and 1ish because theres nothing decent on tv then. In the afternoon I mostly watched tv (old episodes of bewitched, startrek voyager, and close to home) then i make supper ( tonight gary had sausage caserole and i had vegitarian southrn fried chicken patties Yummy) after supper mostly brittish soaps and a few set tv programs ( tonight was csi vegas) and I just got out of the shower and am headed to bed. so that was my day :D talk to you all tomrrow

I went to the most awsome place today, its run by the county, and its like a big charity shop, they had everything soo cheap, garys mum bought a brad new 3 piece suit for £35 pounds, and they had loads and loads of tables and chairs and tvs and cookers and washing machines dead cheap. too bad ive already got a house full of more furnature then i need lol. but i did manage to pick up a few bargins we got new lino for the kitchen for£10 onstead of the £80 it would sell for in a shop, and i got new coffee tea and sugar jars, and a nice wodden shelf which im in the process of painting pink to match my lovely kitchen :D i just know sadie will love it when she gets a chance to get up here.
